About the Club

Who we are

Kendal Mountaineering Club (KMC) is an active and friendly Kendal-based club with members from Kendal, Lancaster, Ulverston and across the South Lakes.

We hold regular meets throughout the year locally and beyond.

The club is affiliated to The British Mountaineering Council. You can see the advantages of this here.

What we do

The club is affiliated to The British Mountaineering Council. You can see the advantages of this here.

In the summer, we have a series of evening meets on Tuesday nights at crags in the Lakes, North Lancashire and North Yorkshire. Information is available on the web calendar. Venues may change subject to the weather.

In the winter, club members tend to be at Kendal Wall on Tuesday evenings

We have a range of weekend meets to North Wales, the Scottish Highlands and the Peak District, often staying in bunkhouse accommodation, or otherwise camping.

We also have a range of Saturday meets in the Lakes and Yorkshire Dales.

How it works

For most evening and Saturday meets, you can just turn up and join us, there’s no need to book. However, if you’re new to the club, it’s a good idea to drop us a line to make sure we know to look out for you and let you know about any last minute changes of plans due to the weather etc.

Weekend trips require advanced booking as places in bunkhouses and club huts are limited and require paying for up front.

The club mailing list keeps members informed of what’s going on, and is useful for finding partners.

You can view the club’s constitution here (pdf download).
